Well, that's just silly...

It's funny how, when your heart is fixed on Christ, things that used to be so fun...(but which don't bring glory to God)...aren't so fun anymore! Tonight my husband and kids were over at a friend's house gaming. They do a role-playing game every couple of weeks - along the lines of dungeons and dragons, but a little different type of story & setting. Anyway - that's not my thing. It's just not something I enjoy doing. So, every couple of weeks they go over and do that, and Babygirl and I hang out at home. Tonight we went and got Chinese food, and snuggled in to watch some movies. Because she's 3, sometimes BG pushes boundaries a bit, and ended up being sent to her room for a time out. Thanks to no nap, she passed out. I tucked her in, kind of hoping she was down for the night, and went back out to enjoy some coffee ice cream and a 'grown up' show. Knowing I basically had the house to myself, and I could watch WHATEVER I wanted, I gleefully looked to the horror category, and picked a movie called 'The Caller'. I wasn't looking for anything full of blood and guts, and didn't want anything overly occult - just more of a thriller. It wanted to be a good thriller - there were some interesting plot twists...but for the most part, it just wasn't a great movie. Despite that, there were a couple of shocker moments in the movie that had me not looking forward to going down to the dark basement to switch loads of laundry mid-movie. About 10 minutes before it ended, I heard the pitter patter of little feet running down the hallway. So much for 'down for the night'! I steered here through looking away from the scary bits of the movie, and finished it. In the end, it was disappointing. I used to LOVE horror movies. I used to LOVE watching them alone, in the dark, with a bowl of popcorn, and having that slightly creeped out feeling that made me slightly regret having watched a scary movie at night, all alone! But most of all, I guess what changes it, is that when you know the source of evil - you just don't get the same thrill out of entertainment that centers around it, you know? On the bright side, the coffee ice cream was pretty good, and I didn't have to share it. (And yes, I promptly hid it in the freezer. We'll see how long it lasts!
