Four Things For Thursday
1.) Went to the Plumb Concert tonight at Beautiful Savior Church.
a.) I love my church so much.
b.) I really wish my church would do stuff like that concert.
c.) Plumb is AMAZING. Seriously - her voice is just...artwork. God is TOTALLY showing off.
d.) It says something about an artist when there are a couple of songs I connect with wholeheartedly.
e.) And my 17-year-old stepdaughter connects with completely different songs from the same artist.
f.) She doesn't know it, but Plumb totally helped build a bridge tonight.
2.) Youngest child and I hit the theater this morning to watch Escape From Planet Earth (free summer movie).
a.) She did great until the last 5 minutes (the big finale) of the movie, when she COULD NOT WAIT for the bathroom.
b.) The movie was cute.
c.) We still spent $16 on movie snacks. Gotta re-think that part.
3.) Youngest child also had dance lessons today.
a.) She flat out refused to do ANYTHING the teacher asked of her.
b.) She was 'afraid of monsters'.
c.) We left 24 minutes in.
d.) Discipline...sucks.
e.) What other choice is there when your 4-year-old just willfully refuses to do what's is asked of her?
f.) We are talking stretching, and bunny hops, here.
g.) Oy vey.
4.) A long day ended with Second Eldest being asked to come back to the job we made her quit last week, because one of the other kids she snuck out of the house with (who also works there) just didn't show up for her scheduled shift today.
a.) I love that my kid is a valuable employee, and they want her back.
b.) Still unsure if it is the right choice.
c.) I am happy she can help out. But it is now 12:11 AM and she is not home yet. They close at 10 on Thursdays.
d.) I am HOPING it is just because they were so behind from being short-staffed.
e.) My brain doesn't want to consider the alternate.
So that's my Four Things For Thursday. I have a fifth thing, but it's not 'Five Things For Thursday'. I started Jesus Calling as my daily devotional. Z and I recommitted to making sure we have daily God time. It had gotten lost in the shuffle of work/kids/trying to keep life going. We both realize God has to be first, and we have to be intentional about that. While at the bookstore yesterday, I saw the Jesus Calling devotional, and I have wanted to get it for some time. There's an orderliness about my life that says "YOU CAN'T START A 1 YEAR DEOVOTONAL ON JUNE 19TH!" But when I picked up the book and read the devotional for June 19th, it hit me straight in the heart, and the book came home with us. SO...that's going on. Sadly, this morning seems so long ago I don't quite remember what I read.
And then...a new book club/Bible Study tomorrow. I am alternately excited/nervous about it. I always enjoy hanging out WHEN I am there. But I can find a million reasons to not go - and I dread it almost every time. 'Hanging out' is not safe in my bubble, in my house, with my things, and my own opinions.
But I asked God.
And He answers.
So....tomorrow...I go.

We use that devotional at our Monday meetings. They usually spark some really good conversation :)
