Back in August, I started a new job. The new job was in a new role. While I was familiar with the role on the type of teams I have been on, I have never personally filled it - I was always either technical (coding) or QA. Now, I am a Product Owner/Business Analyst, which means that I "own" the piece of software we're working on - I tell the developers what to build, and then assess at the end if they did what was needed.
Cool for a control freak, right?
Except that I don't really "own" it. I don't actually get to say where the money goes, or decide how the business is going to use it. They tell me what they want and then I "own" making the system do that. SO it's like having power with no power. It kind of sucks, in that way.
But I've been on the team since August. So far, I have earned a reputation for "killing" every project they put me on. They'd put me on a project, I'd start my assessment and tell them how much work it was, and then all of the sudden...Nope, JUST KIDDING...we don't need that. So that has also sucked.
BUT...now they have given us a project that is probably going to "stick", so for the last 3 full days, I have been shut inside a conference room with my team, planning this project.
My team is an interesting assortment of developers and QA, who have never worked all together before as a team. It has been interesting seeing how all the different personalities play out. OH, also? I am the only woman on the team. SO that is also interesting.
Tomorrow will be the first "work" day we've had with all of our new planning. I am MOST excited that it is a day with only ONE 15 minute meeting scheduled!
We'll see how it turns out.
But at least we've STARTED. :-)
