Learning

C finished her 2nd week of preschool today.

I love it. She loves it. Today was her day to take the snack for all the kids. She has been on cloud 9 since she was given the snack bucket to bring home Wednesday. I'm not sure the snack I picked out, teddy grahams and apple juice, was the coolest snack ever, but it was minimal mess and easy, so there you go.

I asked her today what she had learned at preschool, and she said "Don't touch your friends." I asked if she learned that because she got in trouble, and she said no, one of the other kids was touching her. SO...that's fun.

They spent the last 2 weeks going over Creation in the Bible, so she can tell me what was created on each day. She has learned that bees can ruin everybody's fun out on the playground, and that it is SUPER fun to go to the extended day program on Wednesdays when they have special activities. This week it was 'bubble factory'.

Her biggest surprise, and I am not sure why it surprised her, exactly, but she was astonished that the new kids she is meeting at school have the same name as kids she knows from church. "There's Carson! But not CHURCH Carson. He's a different boy named Carson. There are TWO Carsons!"

There are moments when I feel sad - when because of her preschool and my work, we go all day without spending much time together. It makes me sad, but when she comes home she has so many fun things to tell me.

She has never been a good eater, but the minute she leaves preschool, she INHALES whatever food I can put near her. Her sleep habits have changed too. She has always been a night owl - difficult to get in bed before 10 or 11, sleeping in until 9 or so. Now she asks to go to bed by 9 or earlier - or just passes out on the couch after dinner. On school mornings, I have to wake her up for school - something she is NOT thrilled about. I'm somewhat afraid she has inherited her dad's penchant for NOT being a morning person!

But overall, it's just amazing seeing her little personality bloom. It's fun seeing her make friends, and play, and enjoy her teachers.

I know we have another 13 years of school (at least) to enjoy this, but...this year is special. She's such a blessing to our family.

I'm so thankful for her!

  1. And if your really, really blessed, she will enjoy middle school when she's older. I don't know any girl who has ever enjoyed middle school but she could be the first!
